Key rules, regulations and things to know

Driving: Drive on the right and overtake on the left.

Speed limits: Motorway 90/100 km/h - Open Road 80 km/h - Town 50 km/h Speed limits are strictly enforced and penalties can be very expensive.

On the spot fines are issued for breaking the law even if it is a minor traffic regulation. The Police issue these, so take great care.

Seat belts are compulsory. All children must be firmly strapped in using approved safety equipment that matches their age, size and weight. Children under 135 centimetres must have their own seat or safety restraint (babies in a cot). Children over 135 centimetres can use a normal seat.

Drink and Driving: 0.02 This limit is nearly as low as "Strictly No Alcholol" if you are intending to drive. More information Here

Headlights: It is the law that all vehicles to drive with dipped headlights at all times, even on bright summer days.

Warning / Emergency Equipment: Warning triangles and Reflective jackets are compulsory Fire extinguishers and First-aid kits are advised, but not compulsory.

Toll Roads: There are around 50 toll stations in Norway

Mobile Phones: It is illegal to use a hand held mobile phone whilst driving. Don't risk using one as you can receive a heavy fine in most countries and more important cause a serious accident.

Disabled Parking: The Blue Badge is recognised in all European countries - More information Here

Drink Drive Laws - Examples of what can be drunk at present

It is not a lot and in some countries even to drink the glass on the right would be breaking the law if you drove afterwards in others a sip would be too much see "Wine" below
